They all lived on the sea.

Suddenly a big wave surged up and displaced them all. Some of them floated to a place out to sea where there were no stars and they did not know where they were, and others drifted away to where there were so many stars that they lost their sense of direction.

Above a cloud lived a pirate who had made this all happen. He would sail across the sky, stealing up the sea beneath him into clouds, and causing a huge wave to sweep across the vastness.

As he sailed above them all, he stole more and more sea into the clouds making them bigger and bigger. Eventually the clouds became so large and the wave swept so far out that the sea leveled and suddenly fell to a point where land could be seen. The boats docked on each side and the people met on land.

The sea pirate carried on stealing the sea until it was no more, leaving only toppled boats on dry land.

He had stolen so much of the sea that it flooded the sky and the stars came rushing in from one side to the other, spreading out near and far. The sky could no longer contain the sea and it started to pour with rain until water covered the seabed and swirled around the land, creating a sea again. The stars found their place, North, South, East and West, guiding those who were lost.

The pirate sailed away with his clouds,

and that is how islands came to be.
